Songkran or Thai Water Festival

Summer season of the year in Thailand. The date of Songkran Festivals is around the middle of April. The people know as Water Festival. Many Thai people have day off the whole week from work to have a celebration with family and friends. They leave Bangkok to return to their hometown. Songkran is the "Buddhist New Year" or someone call "Thai New Year". It's not absolutely certain of when the jump from sprinkling water over hands changed to pouring over heads, but in the heat of summer season, it seems like a logical step to make. Younger generations have adapted the festival to be what it is today more like a splash by water. Talcum powder or chalk use by monk for blessing and by the young to appreciate grandparents or elder. Most people use the talcum powder together when splashing.

One of the rituals of Songkran is to bathe Buddha statues. As buddhist believe the act purifies and renews life while washing away bad fortune. It's also a custom to pour fragrant water on the hands of revered elders and asking them for their blessing. If you walking on the street.
